{"id":4836,"date":"2015-06-08T12:56:41","date_gmt":"2015-06-08T11:56:41","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.filasolutionsblog.com\/?p=4836"},"modified":"2021-07-28T18:39:47","modified_gmt":"2021-07-28T16:39:47","slug":"do-you-need-to-seal-porcelain-tiles","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blog.filasolutions.com\/en\/do-you-need-to-seal-porcelain-tiles\/","title":{"rendered":"Do you need to seal porcelain tiles?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Do <strong>porcelain floor tiles<\/strong> really <strong>need to be sealed<\/strong>?&nbsp; There\u2019s an argument to say that you\u2019d only seal a polished porcelain tile and would leave a textured or matt surface well alone.&nbsp; But is this strictly true?<\/p>\n<p><strong>Textured tiles<\/strong> <strong>can prove difficult to keep clean <\/strong>as they have \u201chigh-low\u201d surfaces.&nbsp; A mop won\u2019t dig out the dirt and often \u201csnags\u201d on the floor.&nbsp; In the case of matt finishes, some are smooth but others may have a slight surface texture &nbsp;\u2013 and even the tiniest surface undulation will collect dirt.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/gres-lappato2.jpg\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-4853\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/gres-lappato2-300x300.jpg\" alt=\"gres-lappato\" width=\"300\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blog.filasolutions.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/gres-lappato2-300x300.jpg 300w, https:\/\/blog.filasolutions.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/gres-lappato2-150x150.jpg 150w, https:\/\/blog.filasolutions.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/gres-lappato2-360x360.jpg 360w, https:\/\/blog.filasolutions.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/gres-lappato2-100x100.jpg 100w, https:\/\/blog.filasolutions.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/gres-lappato2-120x120.jpg 120w, https:\/\/blog.filasolutions.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/gres-lappato2.jpg 600w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Although a <strong>sealant isn\u2019t always recommended<\/strong> or necessary, a <strong>protective barrier offers a great alternative<\/strong>, with additional benefits. <a title=\"Dirty Porcelain Tiles? The product has an independent approval for the pendulum slip test and, once applied, the surface is easier to clean.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Tiles need to be thoroughly cleaned before any barrier or treatment is applied<\/strong>.&nbsp; If they aren\u2019t, any dirt or installation residues will become trapped between the tile surface and the treatment, and the barrier\u2019s performance will be compromised, and it will look unsightly.<\/p>\n<p><b>To apply FILASTOP DIRT:<br \/>\n<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Clean the floor thoroughly using <a href=\"https:\/\/www.filasolutions.com\/en\/products\/full-range\/cleaning-products\/detergents\/deterdek.html\">DETERDEK PRO<\/a> (to remove cement grout and residue) or <a href=\"https:\/\/www.filasolutions.com\/en\/products\/full-range\/cleaning-products\/detergents\/fila-cr10.html\">CR10<\/a> (to remove epoxy grout) <b>if the tiles are newly installed.&nbsp; <\/b><\/li>\n<li>Use DETERDEK PRO or <a href=\"https:\/\/www.filasolutions.com\/en\/products\/full-range\/cleaning-products\/detergents\/filaps87.html\">PS87 PRO<\/a> <b>if you are renovating existing tiles.<\/b>&nbsp; &nbsp;Allow the surface to dry<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Using a <strong>brush<\/strong>, <strong>sponge<\/strong> or <strong>fleece cloth,<\/strong> <strong>apply the undiluted solution evenly<\/strong>, over the tiles and the grout joint<strong>.<\/strong>&nbsp; (Work in 2-3m<sup>2 <\/sup>sections.)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Rub the surface<\/strong> with a cloth or floor cleaning machine fitted with a white disc.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Remove any residue<\/strong>, within ten minutes, using a clean cloth or disc.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>The floor can be <strong>walked<\/strong> on after <strong>12 hours<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><a href=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/gres.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-4855\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/gres-300x300.jpg\" alt=\"gres 1 001\" width=\"300\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blog.filasolutions.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/gres-300x300.jpg 300w, https:\/\/blog.filasolutions.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/gres-150x150.jpg 150w, https:\/\/blog.filasolutions.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/gres-360x360.jpg 360w, https:\/\/blog.filasolutions.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/gres-100x100.jpg 100w, https:\/\/blog.filasolutions.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/gres-120x120.jpg 120w, https:\/\/blog.filasolutions.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/gres.jpg 600w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Many consumers believe that a polished porcelain tile offers the best resistance to dirt, as the surface appears to be completely impervious.&nbsp; However, during the polishing process, micro-pores are opened up.&nbsp; Some polished porcelains are sealed during manufacture to protect them during installation.
