Safer Natural Stone and Tile Starts Here: Introducing the FILA Grip Line

Smooth tile and stone floors are chosen for their durability and clean, modern look. But in areas exposed to water, from pool decks and spa floors to entryways and patios, those same surfaces can present a risk if traction isn’t properly considered.

To improve underfoot safety without altering the material’s appearance, FILA Solutions has introduced the Grip Line. This two-product system is designed to increase grip on common hard surfaces, such as porcelain, ceramic tile, granite, and siliceous stone.

A Long-Awaited, Cost-Effective Method

This isn’t a new problem. Professionals have been asking for a reliable, commercially viable way to improve grip on tile and stone surfaces for years, without changing how those surfaces look or behave. The FILA Grip Line has been developed to answer that long-standing challenge, delivering measurable safety improvements without unnecessary complexity.

While both products work on the same principle, they’re designed for different users. PROGR1P provides professionals with controlled, high-performance slip resistance for larger or high-traffic environments, while EASYGR1P offers a simplified solution for targeted residential and light-use applications.

Why Slippery Surfaces Are a Widespread Issue

In both residential and commercial environments, slip resistance is an essential performance consideration. Smooth materials such as porcelain tile and granite are often selected for their strength and visual consistency, but once moisture is introduced, whether from cleaning, weather exposure, or regular use, performance can quickly be reduced. In high-use or publicly accessible spaces, this isn’t just an inconvenience. It becomes a safety and liability concern that must be addressed without compromising design intent or increasing maintenance demands.

Traditionally, improving grip meant accepting visible compromises. Coatings, for example, can dull the finish, add shine where it isn’t wanted, or wear unevenly over time. Mechanical roughening can also permanently alter the surface, effectively changing the way it actually looks.

A Different Approach to Improving Slip Resistance

The FILA Grip Line takes a different approach. Instead of adding a layer on top, these treatments work directly on the surface at a microscopic level. They subtly modify the structure of the tile or stone to increase friction, without forming a film and without altering color, sheen, or texture to the eye.

PROGR1P: Professional-Grade Control for High-Traffic Areas

PROGR1P is designed for professional use in environments where safety, consistency, and speed matter. It’s ideal for commercial spaces, hospitality settings, public walkways, and residential exteriors where surfaces are exposed to moisture and heavy foot traffic.

When dry, the surface feels unchanged. When wet, the improved grip becomes immediately noticeable.

Suitable Surfaces

  • Porcelain tile
  • Ceramic tile
  • Granite and other siliceous stone

Typical Applications

  • Pool decks and pool surrounds
  • Outdoor stairs, ramps, and walkways
  • Building entrances and lobbies
  • Spa, wellness, and locker room areas

How PROGR1P Is Applied

PROGR1P is a ready-to-use liquid treatment formulated for a fast, controlled process. Before treatment, the substrate must be thoroughly cleaned using an appropriate FILA cleaner, such as DETERDEK or PS87.

A test is always recommended, as reaction times can vary slightly depending on the material and finish. The product begins reacting within approximately one minute, allowing large areas to be treated efficiently.

The treatment is carried out in manageable sections, typically 10 to 30 square feet, using grout lines or joints as natural boundaries. PROGR1P is applied evenly using a fleece applicator or paint brush, keeping the surface wet for the full contact time. Once the reaction is complete, the product is removed, and the surface is thoroughly rinsed and neutralized using a diluted solution of CLEANALL or STONECLEAN.

EASYGR1P: A Simple Safety Solution for Smaller Areas

Not every slippery surface requires a commercial-strength treatment. In many homes, the biggest risks come from small, frequently used areas such as shower floors, tiled entryways, or patios near garden doors. EASYGR1P was developed for this targeted use.

Designed with homeowners and light trade use in mind, this solution offers the same invisible slip resistance technology as PROGR1P, but with a formulation that’s easier to apply and manage in smaller areas.

Suitability

  • Porcelain tile
  • Ceramic tile
  • Granite

Typical Applications

  • Shower floors and bathroom tile
  • Entryways, mudrooms, and hallways
  • Residential patios and outdoor steps

How EASYGR1P Works

The treatment is supplied ready to use and requires no dilution. As with all grip-enhancing treatments, testing in an inconspicuous area is essential. Adjacent areas should also be protected before application. Once the surface has been thoroughly cleaned, EASYGR1P should be applied evenly using a paint brush, ensuring the area remains wet throughout the reaction time.

The recommended contact time is approximately ten minutes. During this period, additional product can be applied as needed to prevent drying. After the reaction phase, the surface should be thoroughly rinsed with clean water to remove any residual product, then washed using a FILA neutral detergent.

Tested Performance You Can Measure

Independent testing confirms that both PROGR1P and EASYGR1P deliver a measurable improvement in underfoot safety across a wide range of compatible surfaces. This allows specifiers, contractors, and facility managers to address risk with confidence, using a solution that performs consistently in real-world conditions.

It’s important to note that these treatments are not suitable for polished or lappato porcelain tiles, as their surface structure does not allow for reliable friction enhancement. Again, with any grip-enhancing treatment, testing in an inconspicuous area is essential to confirm compatibility and avoid unintended permanent changes to surface appearance.

One-Time Treatment, Long-Term Results

When carried out correctly, the grip-enhancing effect of both products is permanent. Because there is no coating to wear away, the treated materials maintain improved grip even with regular cleaning and use.

Proper preparation, controlled use, and thorough rinsing are key to achieving dependable results. Once treated, surfaces can be maintained using FILA’s neutral cleaners without affecting functionality.

Why the Grip Line Comes in Two Options

The Grip Line has been developed as a two-tier system, allowing slip resistance to be addressed at the appropriate scale. PROGR1P provides professionals with the control and efficiency required for larger installations and high-traffic environments. EASYGR1P applies the same technology in a simplified format for targeted areas where a full commercial treatment isn’t necessary.

This approach allows safety improvements to be implemented without introducing unnecessary complexity, while maintaining consistent performance across different project types.

Safer Surfaces, No Visual Trade-Offs

From commercial pool decks to residential showers, the highly anticipated FILA Grip Line provides a practical way to improve slip resistance without altering appearance or increasing maintenance requirements. With no coatings to wear away and no visible change to the material, both options offer a long-term solution for environments where safety and design must work together.
