Mosaics are well-suited to tiled shower pans because they can follow the slope toward the drain more easily than larger formats. However, more grout joints also create more places for soap residue, body oils, hard water minerals, and dirt to collect.
Begin With the Mosaic Material
The shape of the mosaic may catch the eye, but the material is what should guide the care routine. Porcelain and ceramic tend to be more forgiving, while marble, limestone, travertine, and other natural stones need a more considered approach.
Before cleaning or sealing, check exactly what the mosaic is made from and test the chosen product in an inconspicuous area.
For absorbent natural stone and other porous materials, protection can begin before the tiles are laid. Depending on the material and installation, FILA’s PW10 can be applied to the backs and sides of the tiles before installation and grouting. It helps prevent contaminants and mineral deposits from moving through the underlying substrate and reaching the surface. Give the Installation a Proper First Clean
The initial post-installation clean removes grout haze and construction residue while preparing the shower pan for protective treatment.

Protect the Tile and Grout
Once the mosaic has been cleaned, a penetrating sealer can make future maintenance more manageable.

Correct drainage, good ventilation, regular cleaning, and allowing the surface to dry between uses all remain important.

A little regular care is far easier than tackling layers of buildup later. Rinse away loose residue, clear any standing water, and give the shower pan a chance to dry between uses wherever possible.
