Washing floors after laying is a fundamentally important step for all subsequent operations and maintenance. Meticulous initial washing makes all subsequent treatments and maintenance easier.
Washing after laying removes residues of plaster, concrete, lime etc. Incorrect cleaning, or omitting to clean at all, is often the cause of patches or the so-called “absorbency effect”, making it impossible to keep the floor clean even if you wash it every day.
And this is a real shame considering all the time, effort, care (and money!) you spend choosing your favourite material.
In the FILA range you’ll find the ideal product for washing any material immediately after laying.
So let’s see how to thoroughly clean a floor after installation.
WASHING AFTER LAYING PORCELAIN STONEWARE, CERAMIC, TERRACOTTA OR ACID-RESISTANT STONE FLOORS
If you have a terracotta, ceramic, porcelain stoneware or non-shiny, acid-resistant stone floor you need DETERDEK, a detergent that removes post-laying residues and construction dirt without attacking or damaging the grouting. Being a buffered acid detergent without the traditional hydrochloric acid, it does not emit fumes harmful to the user or the environment and does not damage adjoining profiles or other metallic elements.
DETERDEK usage instructions for washing after laying:
-
- Pre-soak the surface with water.
- Dilute DETERDEK in water at a ratio of 1:5-1:10 (1 litre of product in 5 or 10 litres of hot or lukewarm water).
- Spread the solution over the surface, a few square metres at a time.
- Leave to work for 2-3 minutes.
- Scrub the surface using a stiff brush with sorghum or plastic bristles, without a cloth underneath or with a slightly abrasive sponge such as Scotch Brite (white for shiny floors, green for matt and/or textured floors) or, if possible, with a single disc scrubbing machine with the appropriate pad (white for shiny floors, green for matt and/or textured floors).
- Mop up washing residues with a wet and dry vacuum cleaner, rags or absorbent paper such as white Scottex.
- Finally, rinse abundantly with clean water.
WASHING AFTER LAYING MARBLE, STONE AND DELICATE SURFACES
If you need to wash marble, granite, travertine, polished natural stone or other delicate surfaces such as resins, shiny agglomerates, porcelain stoneware sensitive to chemical agents or crackle glaze ceramic… the ideal product is FILACLEANER, the universal neutral detergent.
FILACLEANER usage instructions for washing after laying:
- Dilute FILACLEANER at a ratio of 1:30 (100 ml in 3 litres of water) and spread it over the floor.
- Spread the solution over the surface, a few square metres at a time.
- Leave to work for 5 minutes.
- Scrub the surface using a stiff brush with sorghum or plastic bristles together with a slightly abrasive sponge such as Scotch Brite or, if possible, with a single disc scrubbing machine with the appropriate white pad.
- Mop up washing residues with a wet and dry vacuum cleaner, rags or absorbent kitchen paper such as white Scottex.
- Finally, rinse abundantly with clean water.
WASHING AFTER LAYING CONCRETE, CEMENT TILES AND NON-ACID RESISTANT STONE (MARBLE, LIMESTONE OR NON-POLISHED RECONSTRUCTED STONE)
Non-shiny surfaces in concrete, reconstructed stone, cement tiles or marble chip will need an alkaline detergent such as FILAPS87, which is also excellent for basic washing of non-acid resistant stone with a non-shiny finish.
FILAPS87 usage instructions for washing after laying:
- Dilute FILAPS87 in water at a ratio of 1:5 (1 litre of product in 5 litres of hot or lukewarm water).
- Spread the solution over the surface, a few square metres at a time.
- Leave to work for 4-5 minutes.
