MARBLE RESTORER: Small-Scale Restoration for Polished Stone

Polished marble and limestone are chosen for their elegant, high-shine appearance, but these materials can be vulnerable to etching, dullness and localised wear. Even when the stone itself remains sound, a small affected area can noticeably interrupt an otherwise beautifully finished surface.

For these occasions, replacement or full professional restoration may not always be necessary. FILA’s MARBLE RESTORER is a kit developed specifically for restoring small polished stone surfaces affected by acidic substances, weathering or wear, helping restore their appearance where they have become worn or damaged.

Common Causes of Dullness and Surface Damage

The original appearance can be affected in several different ways, from one-off spills to gradual exposure and everyday use.

Some common problems include:

  • Acid etching: lemon juice, vinegar, wine and other acidic substances can leave pale or matt marks on polished marble.
  • Wear-related dullness: frequently used areas, such as bathroom tops, tables, steps and doorsteps, can gradually lose their original lustre.
  • Weather-related deterioration: exposed polished stone, including window sills and doorsteps, can lose some of its original sheen or develop an uneven appearance.

The kit is suitable for marble, travertine and polished limestone, as well as polished marble-concrete agglomerates, including terrazzo, and marble-resin agglomerates. This gives it scope across a variety of polished stone applications and settings, rather than marble alone.

A Two-Stage Restoration Process

Restoring the finish involves two key stages: smoothing the affected area, followed by polishing to bring back its appearance. The surface is first wetted and worked progressively using the supplied yellow MARBLE ONE metal pad, then the white MARBLE TWO resin-coated pad and finally, the blue MARBLE THREE resin-coated pad, extending slightly beyond the affected area to help create an even result.

Once this stage is complete and the area has been dried, MARBLE SHINE is applied and worked using the supplied MARBLE SPONGE to restore the original sheen. As MARBLE RESTORER is a semi-professional product, it is always advisable to test the treatment on a small, inconspicuous area before use. Individual materials and levels of damage can vary, so the detailed instructions supplied within the kit should always be followed.

Restore, Protect and Maintain

Restoration can also form part of a wider stone-care routine. Following treatment, MP90 ECO XTREME can be used to provide water- and oil-repellent protection against future staining. The water-based protector is suitable for polished marble, granite, natural stone and agglomerates, providing high-performance protection without creating a film or altering the material’s natural appearance. Treated surfaces are also safe for food contact, making it particularly useful for marble worktops and tables.

For ongoing care, MARBLE REFRESH completes the routine. Designed for natural stone and protected surfaces, it cleans while helping reinforce stain-proofing protection over time. Ready to use and requiring no rinsing, it is particularly convenient for regularly used marble, granite and quartz worktops.

Together, they create a simple restore, protect and maintain routine that helps keep these surfaces looking their best and better protected over time.
