Familiar with the Sustainable Development Goals? They play a huge role in how businesses can support the health and safety of the planet. Because while individual actions matter, corporations should be involved to ensure an even better tomorrow. Sustainability means many different things, but for our team, it’s about respecting the environment in every decision that we make. We believe for the world to succeed, we must work together as ‘one’. Let’s explore the goals and FILA’s implementation progress.
Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) at a glance
Adopted by all United Nations Member States in 2015, the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development provides a shared blueprint for our planet’s future. At its heart includes 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), which should be reached within the next 15 years to preserve oceans, and forests and tackle climate change. In order to achieve these targets, business leaders should also partake, and many have already signed up for this pledge. Additionally, the private sector is to have a powerful role, but of course, certain goals will vary depending on a company’s strategy.
What are the 17 SDGs?
Goal 1: No poverty – poverty to be ended in all forms, everywhere
Goal 2: Zero hunger – promote sustainable agriculture to end hunger
Goal 3: Good health and well-being – promote well-being for all
Goal 4: Quality education – learning opportunities for all
Goal 5: Gender equality – empower all women and girls
Goal 6: Clean water and sanitation – sustainable management of water and sanitation for all
Goal 7: Affordable and clean energy – access to sustainable, modern energy
Goal 8: Decent work and economic growth – promote sustained economic growth
Goal 9: Industry, innovation and infrastructure – build a resilient infrastructure
Goal 10: Reduced inequalities – reduce inequalities within and among countries
Goal 11: Sustainable cities and communities – make cities and human settlements safe
Goal 12: Responsible consumption and production – ensure sustainable production patterns
Goal 13: Climate action – urgent action to combat climate change
Goal 14: Life below water – conserve and sustainably use the oceans

Goal 17: Partnerships for the goals – strengthen the Global Partnership for Sustainable Development
FILA’s implementation progress:
Although every SDG matters, not every business can implement all 17 goals. Instead, picking the most relevant ones can make a bigger impact. Here’s how FILA is implementing ours.
Goal 6: Clean water and sanitation
Goal number 6 relates to water – did you know the world’s ecosystems are being degraded at an alarming rate? Shockingly, if this doesn’t change, by 2030, 1 in 4 people will be affected by recurring water shortages. Following strict protocols, we hope that by the end of this year, our new water demineralisation system will harvest 90,000 litres of water used to clean our production lines.
The beauty of FILA’s CLEANER PRO is that there’s no need to rinse because it doesn’t leave foam residues. Simply mop with FILA’s CLEANER PRO and enjoy the rest of your day. Just by using this product you’re actually saving precious water!
Goal 7: Affordable and clean energy
We also use electricity generated from renewable sources and produce energy through our photovoltaic system. As a result, we save up to 50% of the energy needed to make the semi-finished materials for our cleaning product DETERDEK PRO.
Goal 12: Responsible consumption and production
Unstable production patterns are the root cause of pollution and climate change. At FILA, we have always created highly concentrated products, so only a little is needed to protect large surface areas. Because of this, our packaging is compact and more efficient to ship, resulting in significant carbon emission reductions. Additionally, CLEANER PRO and DETERDEK PRO have received Amazon’s Compact by Design certification for Climate Pledge-Friendly products.
Goal 13: Climate action
Developing a climate action plan is at the heart of our brand and helps us to set and revise our primary goals. Part of this means reducing emissions to meet sustainability standards, and we guarantee the lowest level of VOCs in the market. In fact, 50% of our products have low VOCs, and our most innovative sealers are entirely VOC-free. Adhering to these stringent health and environmental requirements means that some of our products also classify as EC 1PLUS.
Goal 14: Life below water
The planet’s largest ecosystem, the ocean, is in danger, thanks to marine pollution like waste plastic. Toxic chemicals from industrial waste are also another issue and are proven to have a detrimental effect on aquatic life. As mentioned, our highly concentrated products promise much higher coverage rates; therefore, they reduce packaging and waste. Our FILA cleaners also contain up to 98% of biodegradable ingredients, with 81% of total production being water-based.
Goal 15: Life on land
Thanks to our professional solutions with low environmental impact, FILA is a figure inside Green Pea, the first Green Retail Park in the world dedicated to ecological sustainability.
FILA’s Certifications
As well as some of our products being classified as EC 1PLUS, we have an Ecovadis Silver rating and are one of the 100 TOP Italian companies in the environmental sustainability sector. In 2022 we also received the Eurofins Indoor Air Comfort Gold certification, which guarantees very low VOC emissions by respecting the most rigid European and international standards.
NET ZERO Carbon by 2040
At FILA, we are proud to forge this commitment to creating an even brighter future and are doing everything we can to ensure we hit target. We’re well and truly on the Green Road regarding the Sustainable Development Goals. What are you doing to meet them? Thanks for reading.
