How to Remove Rust and Sulphate Stains from Natural Stone Paving

DeterdekNatural stone paving is ideal for application outdoors.  Sometimes, atmospheric agents can lead to rust or sulphate stains. It’s important to know how to remove these stains, without damaging the surface.

To clean natural stone paving, Fila has developed DETERDEK PRO – a specialised descaling cleaning agent which is able to remove residual rust or sulphate stains from natural stone paving.  (Deterdek Pro contains surfactants, so it can descale and clean.)

We do not recommend using DETERDEK PRO on polished marble or limestone surfaces.

DETERDEK PRO cleans without altering the stone’s appearance and it does not generate fumes which are harmful to people or the environment.

To remove rust stains, wet the area to be treated with water. Next, pour a little DETERDEK PRO onto a green scouring pad and gently rub the area.  Then, rinse the treated surface thoroughly.

thanks for contacting FILA Technical Assistance Department.
      Regarding your request:

      – if the yellowing is due to stagnation of leaves and flowers, we suggest to use ALGACID
      – if the yellowing is due to rust, we suggest to use NORUST
      – if the yellowing is due to organic stains, we suggest to use SR95
      – if the yellowing is due to oil or greasy substances, we suggest to use NOSPOT

If you send us some picture of the stone floor, specifying which is the material, we can suggest you also a good extraordinary cleaning, a good sealing and maintenance that will permit you to maintain longer the beauty of the surface.

  5. What is the best product to remove extensive rust staining on my sandstone paving? It has only been down a week and nearly all 35sq.mtrs is affected?

    1. Good morning Lorraine,
If your sandstone is resistant to acids you can do a cleaning with DETERDEK, diluted 1:5
If your sandstone is not resistant to acids, you can only use NORUST, a specific rust remover for materials sensitive to acids
In case the staining is due to rising staining agents from the back of the stone the marks will not be removable any more, because present in all the thickness of the tiles.
We remain at your disposal for any further information you may need.

      Best Regards,
      Chiara
