Fila products help restore Murisengo Castle

Castelli Monferrato

Master Fila Treatment experts – the Bergantin brothers – were the stars of a long and complex restoration project, during which they worked to restore the time-ravaged surfaces of Murisengo Castle in Italy’s Piedmont region. Thanks to the recommendations of Italy’s Superintendence for Architectural Heritage, the project was able to recover the castle’s damaged and decayed surfaces to their former glory.

Restoration work

The restoration project lasted a year and involved around 1,800 square meters of floors and other surfaces. The end result exceeded all expectations and left one of the most important castles of Monferrato in outstanding condition.

The restoration work, thanks to our specialist surface treatment products, managed to restore the beauty of the castle’s ancient frescoed halls, the castle’s church and its central tower, which is considered an iconic symbol of the castle.

Like many of the castles in Monferrato area, the floors were in a bad state of decay and restoring them to their original state was no easy task. Thanks to some of Fila‘s specialist cleaning products, such as DETERDEK and FILACLEANER, and the use of surface protectors like FILAPARQUET NATURE, the restoration of the walls and the floors has been a complete success, and has managed to restore an example of Italy’s national heritage – of inestimable value – to its former beauty.

Over the years, Murisengo Castle had been subject to various acts of vandalism and looting, all of which threatened the future of this important part of Italy’s national heritage. Fila participated in the restoration works and helped restore the castle to the beauty of its heyday. Fila products used, as part of this Medieval fortress’ restoration project, helped restore the castle’s beamed ceilings, stone walls, tufa surfaces, and terracotta and wood floors to their original condition.

The historic castles of the Monteferrato area, which lie in the Piedmont region of Italy, are magnificent medieval fortifications that often hide amazing art treasures and cultural artifacts of inestimable value. For the sake of Italy’s cultural heritage, they must not be lost! To help prevent their loss, we need to find the best ways possible to ensure these cultural gems, bequeathed by Italy’s past, are preserved.

Murisengo Castle is situated in the province of Alessandria and is one of the oldest and most prestigious castles of the Monteferrato area. Of medieval origins, the fortress was built in 1164 and was the luxurious residence for Federick Barbarossa, Vittorio Emanuele the Third, and Silvio Pellico, who, within the castle’s rooms, found the inspiration to write the tragedy ‘Francesca da Rimini.’

Paying tribute to greatness and the importance of this castle is its majestic tower. Dating from the early thirteenth century, the tower of Murisengo Castle dominates the town’s skyline.
